食医起源考
周代掌管宫廷饮食滋味温凉及分量调配的医官。
《周礼·天官·食医》：“食医，掌和王之六食、六饮、六膳、百羞、百酱、八珍之齐。”
“食医”这一名称，出自《周礼·天官·冢宰》，书中在主管医疗卫生的官员下设了四种不同职责的医官；食医、疾医(内科医生)、疡医(外科医生)、兽医。食医负责调配王室贵族饮食的寒温、滋味、营养等，相当现代的营养师。“食医掌和王之六食、六饮、六膳、百羞、百酱、八珍之齐”由两个“中士”担任。
饮食管理
饮食的制作、烹饪是膳夫的事。
食医主要是对食、饮、膳、羞进行调和与搭配：对饮食寒温的确定，可以与四季的气温相比拟，即主食应当温，羹汤应当热，酱应当凉，而饮料与酒应当寒；对饮食五味与季节的搭配也有讲究：春天多吃酸味食品，夏天多吃苦味食品，秋天多吃辛味食品，冬天多吃咸味食品。无论哪一季节都要作甘甜滑润的食品加以调和食用，可润肠通便。至于肉食与主食的配合也有适宜的方法。如此复杂、讲究的饮食调配，是对天子、王侯及上等贵族之家的食膳而言的，但也充分说明，早在两千多年前的古人就对饮食养生健身提出了较为系统的办法。
王宫中把“食医”列于众医之首，又说明了当时对食养、食疗的重视。
清代著名医家在《用药如用兵论》一文中，指出：“圣人之所以全民生也，五谷为养，五果不助，五畜为益，五菜为充，而毒药则以之攻邪。“圣人用来保全人民生命的健康的方法是：用主食作营养品，用水果作辅助品，用肉类作补品，用蔬菜作充养品，而药物是用来治疗疾病的。这就比较全面地介绍了饮食的养生保健的内容与作用。现代生活中，人们越来越认识到饮食养生保健的重要，食疗也出现了从未有过的大普及。医院有营养医师，药膳房有药膳师、宾馆、酒家有厨师，而各家各户都有主管操持饮食的人，他们所关注的不再只是“吃饱”，而是要“吃好”。
